• A group of students from Bates College visited to Mardin Artuklu University.

A group of students who receive education in the Department of the Political Science, Bates College, in the USA organized a two-day study visit to Mardin Artuklu University.


During the visit to the Faculty of Architecture, the Institute of the living languages in Turkey and the Institute of Social Sciences which are affiliated to Mardin Artuklu University, they could not help admiring Mardin’s history and its architectural texture.


In the Faculty of Architecture, Associate Prof. Mark Soileau, who works at the Department of Anthropology, gave a lecture about Mesopotamian history to the students and presented a detailed introduction of the foundation and development of the University. 


After that, the students attended Kurdish classes given by the teaching staffs from the Department of Kurdish Language and Literature.


Prof. Dr. Kadri Yildirim, the Vice-Chancellor and at the same time the head of the Institute of the Living Language in Turkey, stated that he was very pleased to meet the delegation whose head Prof. Dr. Senem Arslan, gives a lecture entitled “Turkey: from Empire to the Nation”, in Bates College, and explained the academic units in detail.


Prof. Dr. Arslan , the head of guest delegation, in the name of the students who are  Pakistani, Zimbabwean, Ghanaian , Bulgarian and Somalia origin, said this:


“We learned a great deal from Mardin Artuklu University’s studies which are identified with the city where it is. Mardin Artuklu University, for us, is very important destination in the visits which we organized to Eastern and South-eastern Anatolia.”


In the meeting lasting about two hours, academic and scientific relations are mutually dealt with in detail and views exchanged.
